Uxella League Division 1
Cannington FC 2 (0) Red Tile FC 3 (2)
For the second week running Red Tile met Cannington in the league and for the second week running had too much for there opponents. However unlike the pervious week Tiles performance was a different story.
They went into the break 2 goals to the good, but were made to work for their lead. On a blustry open pitch Tile simply couldn’t move the ball in the way they have previously demonstrated in the league. They weren’t without their chances, Damon Jennings saw an effort go narrowly wide and Shane Thompson hit the bar as Tile looked to get going.
They eventually did so thanks to Shane Thompson who was able to fire home from six yards. The lead was doubled soon after when an Olly Smith corner was fumbled by the keeper and Steve Hall stooped to head home his first of the season.
Tile after the break looked alot tidier in possession and were rewarded with a third from the in form Jamie Evans. It perhaps should of been 4 however the referee missed an effort that by all reports had clearly crossed the line.
However with 15minutes to go Tile let their foot of the pedal and allowed the home side back into the game. Two quick goals saw Tile had a nervy last 5 minutes, they duly did hold on and now stand five points clear at the top of the league.

Jamie Evans produced a stunning display to ensure Tile contiuned their fine league form. The Tile new boy has made a positive impact since signing from Blake Old Boys and he further justified his signing with 4 goals against a tricky Cannington outfit.
On paper Cannington looked a tricky obstacle but they were swept aside by the fluid passing style of Tile who seem intent on not repeating the form that saw them knocked out of both the cup competition.
Tile were simply too strong despite a ten minute spell where Cannington were allowed to get back in to the game.
In a strange turnabout Tile will travel to Cannington for their next fixture in the league.

Shane Thompson returned to the Red Tile line up in impressive style on sunday. Thompson who had missed the two previous cup defeats came back to haunt his former side with well deserved hatrick as Tile bounced back in empthatic style.
Thompson opened the scoring bundling the ball in at the back post after a Rich Ball cross. Blake then scored a comical own goal to double Tile’s lead before Thompson added his second and Tile’s third. Andy Smith ran the Blake back line ragged and grabbed himself two, the second a fanastic finish reminisent of Andrei Arshavin. Shane Thompson then completed his hatrick before Jamie Evans neatly chipped the goalkeeper to complete the rout.
It was a professional display that was had as much to do with endeavour as it did quality finishing. Blake never looked like causing a problem, despite a ropey start from Tiles defence on set pieces. Blake simply couldn’t compete and the Tile midfield were given far too much room. Scott Capel inparticular showed a maturity and confidence in what was an excellent display.
This was a job well done by Tile, who yet again had a large squad to choose from. The win lifts them to second in the uxella league and the squad will be keen to continue this kind of form when they report to training on tuesday.

Sunday 4th October -Dave Hobbs Cup 1st Round
Woolavington 2 (2) Red Tile 1 (0)
For the second weekend running Red Tile FC were in cup action and for the second week running were knocked out 2-1.
Tile had injury worries heading into the game, with no Jason McPheat (Toe), Steve Hall (Hamstring), Neil Thompson (Illness) and Simon Bone (Holiday) and Olly Smith and Adam Wall carrying knocks. Wall would eventually be replaced midway through the 1st half with a rib injury.
Despite the injuries, on the field Tile simply couldn’t get going and found themselves 2 goals down at the break. Rich Ball had seen an effort hit the post as Tile failed to convert their chances and were thankful to Scott Rich who produced a string of outstanding saves to keep Tile in the game. With 10 minutes to go Tile eventually scored through Jamie Evans however it was to little too late for Tile.
There is certainly a confidence about the Tile squad however injuries and absences took their toll. Tile will hope that they can bounce back with the return of league football on sunday against Blake Old Boys. The league is now their only concentration.

Bill Brown Cup 1st Round -
Quantock Pride 2 (0) Red Tile FC 1 (0)
Red Tile showed off their new all red kit on sunday but it was a case of an old story re-emerging to haunt them. For the 2nd year running Tile have succumbed to Quantock Pride in the Bill Brown Cup and once again produced a below par performance.
Tile were without Shane Thompson, Damon Jennings and Simon Bone and how they missed them. The defence looked edgy, lacking coherence and communication. The midfield failed to expoilt the space they were given and rarely had any real width. Playing a 4-5-1 formation, Tile looked to snuff out Prides midfield and over run them however Pride simply looked for a ball over the top which made the Tile midfield mere spectators. Matters weren’t helped when Olly Smith limped off having recieved a crunching tackle on his ankle midway through the 1st half.
The 1st half produced very little, Adam Wall went close on a couple of occasions from 25 yards but Tile didn’t make the Pride keeper work. At the other end Pride were failing too make clear cut chances. A cross come shot whistled across the face of goal was as close as they came. But it was the second half that saw the break through. Pride hit first when a routine cross wasn’t cleared by no less than three tile defenders, and the resulting shot was deflected in leaving Scott Rich with little chance.
Tile hit back though and were soon on level terms when the ball was worked to James Hamilton to fire home from 10 yards. Pride then restored their advantage when a shot crept past Rich and squirmed over the line having hit the post. It was a cruel goal, but it seemed to sum Tiles performance.
Adam Wall hit the post deep into the game and Tile saw another effort cleared off the line has looked for an equaliser that never came.
Tile were simply not at the races and looked below par. Whilst it is only one game, its seems Tile ability to choke when it matters hasn’t gone away just yet.

Red Tile FC (2) 3 Pawlett United (0) 2
Shaun Turner saved Tiles blushes with a last minute winner to deny Pawlett a hard fought point. Turner was in the right place at the right time to sweep home from 8 yards and bring another important three points.
After a weeks break following the 5-0 away win at Cross Rifles Tile were eager for action. Andy Staunton made two changes from the side that opened the campaign with Rich Ball replacing the injured Steve Hall and Neil Thompson returning to replace Simon Bone at left back.
Tile were slow to start and it was the visitors who looked more threating in the early exchanges. Pawlett however weren’t creating a decent attempt on goal and Scott Rich in the Tile goal was a mere spectator at times as Pawlett could only muster half hearted efforts.
With Tile looking for some coherence they suddenly found another gear and pulled clear of Pawlett with two goals in 5 minutes. First a Liam Evans cross was met by a flying Scott Capel who headed home with an excellent header. The lead was doubled soon after when Andy Smith crossed to find Liam Evans running in at pace to nod home from six yards. Tile were 2-0 up with ease and suddenly Pawlett were deflated.
The second half however saw Pawlett come back into the game. Their first came from another header and the equaliser from the penalty spot as Tile looked shaky. Andy Staunton rang the changes as Tile looked to establish themselves on the game once more. Shane Thompson and James Hamilton were brought into the action and immediately set about running at the Pawlett defence. Tile came close on a number of occasions but couldn’t find a clear cut opportunity until stoppage time.
James Hamilton’s corner was cleared as far as Liam Evans who hit a long ball back into the area where it was headed on by Rich Ball. The ball fell kindly at the feet of Shaun Turner who turned to sweep home and give Tile all three points.
It was a hard fought three points against a Pawlett side full of industry and endeavour. Its games like this that win you championships and Tile showed a battling spirit that will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.

Cross Rifles 0 (0) Red Tile FC (2) 5
Red Tile eased into their league campaign with a comfortable 5-0 victory over newly promoted Cross Rifles.
Renewing old rivals in the top flight Tile never looked in trouble with new signing Jamie Evans heading home a Simon Bone cross midway through the 1st half. From there Tile were in complete control. Andy Smith added a second before the break and soon added his second and Tile’s third at the start of the second. Olly Smith made it 4-0 with a strong finish after good work from the midfield, but the best was saved till last has Rich Ball struck a stunning volley to make it 5.
Tile were never really troubled by a lack lustre Rifles side and new goalkeeper Scott Rich was a mere spectator at times. Tile’s dominance was in part to a sound back line in which Liam Evans was particularly instrumental. The midfield three were industrious and the 3 forwards all looked dangerous on the counter.
This was a good run for Tile but tougher tests lie ahead.
Tile started to wind down their Pre-Season Matches with a hard fought match v “Forresters” with both sides missing a number of key players this was a good chance for some of the fringe players to make a name for themselves.
Tile were without:
Scott Rich, Liam Charles, Liam Evans, Neil Thompson, Jason McPheat, Adam Wall, Damon Jennings, Shane Thompson, Adam Chappell, Jamie Evans and Jack Taylor most of which would feature in the squad each week.
The opportunity of a full 90 minutes was well and truely grabbed by most players none more than Scott Capel who was nothing less than Sensational on the night pulling all the strings and carving out endless opportunities.
However it was infact the away side who took the lead hitting Tile on the counter.
Tile created chance after chance but just couldnt break down a very resiliant side until some smooth passing between 4 or 5 Tile players which ended with Steve Hall tapping in from close range. Very quickly after Tile went 2-1 in front with a goal from a liveley James Hamiltion.
The away side didn’t throw in the towel though they kept probing and eventually got a 2nd.
Tile again applied the pressure and upstepped Andy Smith to thump home the winner at 3-2. Tiles management paid tribute to a fine Forresters side who will go close in the 2nd Division this year.
Tiles depleated squad gave Andy Staunton a lot to think about going into the final 2 games before the start of the season following this fine display. Time is running out for the manager to pick his strongest starting line up.
When asked by who had stood out in preseason one name in particular was mentioned “Shaun Turner”.
